Regular Checkups are Important

Are you brushing your teeth twice a day? If yes, that’s great! But, don’t forget that it’s also important for you to visit Dr. Philbrick every six months in addition to brushing your teeth a couple times a day and flossing once too! Regular dental checkups are important for maintaining good oral health. Dr. Philbrick can:

• Check for problems that might not be seen or felt
• Detect cavities and early signs of decay
• Treat oral health problems early
• Show you how to properly brush and floss your teeth

During an oral exam the doctor will check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue. Checkups will also include a thorough teeth cleaning and polishing. If you haven't been to the dentist in the last six months, it’s time for you to schedule an appointment, call us today!

You, your child and cavities, from Weaver Dental Care

Our team at Weaver Dental Care read an interesting article this morning pertaining to cavities and how bacteria spreads from parents to children, and thought we'd share the news with you, our valued patients and parents.

According to the MSNBC article, Streptococcus mutans, or MS, is a bacterium that can pass from person to person through the transfer of saliva, and is the main culprit. Bacteria have been known to spread through blowing on babies' foods, sharing household utensils and even kissing your little one. In fact, a 2008 pediatric dentistry study showed “strong evidence demonstrated that mothers are a primary source of MS colonization of their children; a few investigations showed other potential sources … notably fathers.”

Dr. Philbrick knows tooth decay is caused by a combination of factors, including the transfer of infectious saliva, genetics, oral hygiene, and feeding practices, such as letting your baby constantly suck on a sippy cup full of juice or milk or other sugar-laden liquids.

We would like for you to read the article and learn a bit more about the transmission of bacteria and how it might impact your child. If you have any questions about bacteria or your treatment at Weaver Dental Care, please feel free to give us a call!

Meet Dr. Philbrick

I enjoy working with and helping people, especially when I know I can improve their overall health and quality of life. My patients always come first and I do whatever it takes to make sure they are happy. I find the variety of patients and cases to be a challenge and I look forward to learning something new every single day. I firmly believe that coming to the dentist and having treatment does not have to be a bad experience and I do everything I can to ensure that outcome. I am honored that my patients put their trust in me and I truly consider them to be a part of my family.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech in 1972, graduating with a Bachelor of Industrial and Systems Engineering. I began working for Southern Bell Telephone Company in greater Atlanta, though I began to realize I wanted to work closer with and help people. I earned my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 1978 and opened up my first practice. I earned my Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in June 2007. Less than seven percent of dentists in the country have earned this postgraduate degree, and I feel blessed to be in such highly regarded company.

I was born in Lexington, KY, and as a youngster I was active in boy scouts. To this day I still love to hike and be outdoors. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Anne, for almost 30 years. We have two beautiful daughters, Lauren and Ginilynn, who I love spending time with. I enjoy reading, playing golf, and being around my family. I am an avid reader of Revolutionary war and early American history and am especially fond of Kentucky history. I am very active at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church with their community outreach programs and as a member of the “Fry Team” during Lent.
